TV chef Jamie Oliver published an extraordinary cookbook, Jamies Dinners, full of quick, British-inspired recipes. Consider what he does with crumpets, which look like English muffins but are doughier and full of small holes. Marie Rose dressing is aBritishcondiment commonly associated with the 70s mayo and ketchup mixed together and used in a prawn cocktail or with other seafood. There were a lot of elements to the dish and not all of it was available at Woolies (what even is chicory?) so we just went without a few herbs and spices. Jamie Olivers Christmas Cookbook by Jamie Oliver Waterstones

One of my favorite Naked Chef recipes. I just love the trip of boiling up the garlic cloves with the pasta, and then just squeezing them out of their skins and adding them mashed to the dressing.

But amateur cooks who have purchased the book frequently complain the recipes are far too complex and have too many components to be completed in 30 minutes.

Another great chapter is dedicated to homemade edible gifts. I love making those The recipe I am sharing today from Jamie Olivers Christmas Cookbook is for Chocolate Truffles. I am a massive truffle fan, so I knew I had to give this recipe a go.

What I also loved about the book is that it gives countless recipes for leftovers as well as post-Christmas recipes such as spicy curries and salads to snap out of the holiday lull.

How I rate my cooking: Im a novice

Before cooking the chicken for his lovely stew, Jamie Oliver lightly coats the pieces in flour.

At the 30-minute mark I have some raw chicken (on skewers go me), some softened noodles in boiling water and a sauce.

I thought I could do this. I was pumped. I had everything on the bench with only five minutes down. Wait, thats taken me five minutes already? Ive spent one sixth of my time trying to find where I put that old bottle of fish sauce at the back of the cupboard. Right, chopping starts, ovens on and then I had to peel the ginger, peel the garlic, pull all the leaves off the two bunches of coriander and now Im screwed. Im already half way through my time and I havent even got anything that looks edible. I think I might just get takeaway at this point

For the recipes that use flour, Ive suggested to replace with tapioca flour (grain free, gluten free flour like coconut or almond meal which are used in paleo cooking) or to use evaporation method and addition of butter or ghee to thicken the sauce.

I was very dubious about putting lettuce into the hot peas but it was surprisingly good. Next time I would probably just get the pie in then worry about everything else, and maybe sub chicken thigh for breast to avoid it becoming a bit dry

My local supermarket didnt stock a key ingredient needed to create the dessert (Pear Drop Tartlets). This was the easiest bit I gave all the ingredients a quick whiz in the food processor and shoved it in the freezer until dessert was served.

Our humble oven was under a lot of strain.

This one-pot dish looks rich and perfect for a cold day. You dont really need to dust the meat with flour as you can thicken the sauce with a little tapioca or arrowroot flour at the end or by using an evaporation method (a.k.a cook with no lid on for the last hour). Peeled white potatoes are fine in small amounts, but feel free to replace with sweet potato, swedes, parsnips or throw in zucchini and cauliflower in the last hour.

Jamies recommended servings of olive oil were so generous the oven started smoking like a bushfire. And the panic only escalated when we realised we had no idea how to turn off the smoke alarm ..

At 30 minutes my pie was just going in the oven after much shuffling of items on the bench in order to roll out pastry, coat everything in flour, clean it up etc. Our pathetic oven meant it needed more like 30 minutes rather than 15 to cook, which meant everything else was sitting there waiting but that gave me some much needed time to clean up

Weve started timing right from the very beginning, because for the average cook, this extra 5-10 minutes makes all the difference.

Nice post. Ive found there are some that dont need any modification, and some where with just a little subsitution here and there you can make it totes paleo. My favourites are:

It was definitely easier having two cooks without it we would have need to be making a dressing while stirring the rice and frying the chicken. At the 30-minute mark we were just getting the chicken into the oven we still had rice to cook, corn to grill and a salad to make. There are no timings in the recipe book and because we went way over the 30 minutes our chicken was a little overcooked, but the final result was actually pretty good and I wouldnt be ashamed to cook it for my mum

I love a bit of harrissa and was very intrigued by the addition of rose petals. Jamie recommends it with oily fish but it would do wonders to lamb cutlets and grilled prawns.Get the recipe here.

The postage is 9 to anywhere in the world. The reason I ship from Germany rather than Australia is that it would cost me more to ship to NZ from OZ than from Germany to OZ. Strange but true Australia Post is super expensive

Celeriac is a root vegetable that has a firm tuber consistency and a smell of fresh celery.Get the recipe here.

This Moroccan-spiced salad combines vitamin Arich carrots and heart-healthy avocados. Jamie Olivers favorite method for preparing carrots (as well as beets) is to first parboil them, then toss them with a dressing and roast them to intensify their sweetness.

On the 30 Minute Meals television show, Oliver breezes through the recipes, often finishing with minutes to spare.

I went rogue and ditched about half the recipe at the beginning. Sorry, Im not going to make gravy, mint sauce and chocolate fondue ON TOP of cooking a lamb rack and a veggie platter so big I could fill a bathtub with cabbage and potatoes.

The only thing you need to change in this recipe is the addition of sugar. Half the amount of sweetness and use maple syrup or coconut syrup instead. Rice malt syrup can also be used as its pretty much glucose. Honey might give it a different flavour.

Everyones favourite meatballs with a difference no meat Fresh fish is used, which together with Sicilian herbs and spices creates a light and fresh dish. Get the recipe here.

My experience in one word: Sweaty so much running from the processor to the stove to the grill to the chopping board to the sink and back again. Jamie expects you to be stirring, chopping, sauteing and boiling all at the same time. I am not an octopus

By the time I had got out all the ingredients and pots and pans I needed, my bench was covered and I was chopping most of it in a small corner.

My partner and I divvied up the lamb and the veggie responsibilities between us but we still got smashed by the time limit. Potatoes only boil so fast.

I wanted to include this recipe because I love when vegetables are served whole like this, and cauliflower is especially delicious when roasted. Get the recipe here.

Wow. I need to lie down The meal was delicious, perfect Sunday night comfort food and I would definitely make it again, but I struggle to see how anyone except for Jamie himself could do it in less than 30 minutes

I can taste this dish when I look at this picture. Add as much or as little sea salt as you prefer. This would be a great side to lamb roast or some roasted chicken.

Its important to note: Each recipe begins with a step titled To Start, which instructs you to get all your ingredients and equipment ready before you begin cooking. This includes setting up and turning on appliances for example, preheating the oven, turning on your kettle, putting your pan onto high heat, etc.

There were a lot of elements to the dish and not all of it was available at Woolies (what even is chicory?) so we just went without a few herbs and spices. There was about eight minutes of preparation involved peeling and chopping veggies etc which Jamie reckons doesnt count in your 30 minutes, but isnt that all part of cooking a meal?

Shakshuka is traditionally a tomato-based dish but this twist freshens it up with spring greens, while still holding on to those core Middle Eastern herbs and spices. Brilliant for brunch or dinner. Get the recipe here.

Cost of ingredients: 84, including 20 for beer. (The recipe said serve with cold beer and who are we to doubt Jamie?). Only had a few ingredients already in the cupboard, and abandoned ones we couldnt find at Woolies

Hands covered in chocolate up to your elbows might be your thing, but it is definitely not mine. I really dislike being messy Or you might feel the same but the taste of these chocolate truffles lightly flavoured with spiced rum and orange blossom water is well worth the trouble I am definitely buying myself a pair of latex gloves and more chocolate for another batch or two

Pasta Salad Recipe by Jamie Oliver - Food.com

Cost of ingredients: 47

Jamies recommended servings of olive oil were so generous the oven started smoking like a bushfire. And the panic only escalated when we realised we had no idea how to turn off the smoke alarm ..

If avoiding white potatoes, replace with zucchini or sweet potato. To save time you can prepare the parcels in advance

This was the most stressful meal Ive ever cooked.

Parmesan fish fillets Jamies Dinners page 65This tastes great. Again, its more primal given the cheese.

The veggies and the gravy finished early so we had to reheat them afterwards.

Full of crunchy goodness of radish, carrots, toasted sesame seeds and fresh herbs, this salad makes my mouth water

My partner and two mates were under strict instructions to not help me as I frantically pivoted around the kitchen to get everything on. Cooking the beef required all of my attention as it needed to be turned every minute and holding the splatter guard over it meant my other hand was occupied.

So when I was asked to review Jamie Olivers Christmas Cookbook I couldnt possibly say no because its Jamie and because its Christmas The great news is that I am also giving away not ONE but THREE Jamie Olivers Christmas Cookbooks today Scroll down for details

There were no fancy techniques required for this recipe, but the pressure to have the meal completed in 30 minutes sent me into a panic.

PS.

I get so perplexed when people call Christmas time stressful because to me, its all about joy and relaxation, enhanced by delicious food. I do enjoy cooking and that might be why. BUTeven if you dont like cooking as much as me Jamies Christmas Cookbook can help you navigate through the holiday season.

Weve started timing right from the very beginning, because for the average cook, this extra 5-10 minutes makes all the difference.

I remember testing a few of the recipes myself before we finished the book and managing to do them in either just over or just under 30 minutes.

This was bought as a present for a Jamie Oliver fan and even I am impressed with this book. All the recipes are well laid out with many pictures throughout the book to ensure you arent going too wrong Despite.. More

The cookbook has sold millions of copies around the world and it was the fastest-selling nonfiction book in Britain, when it was first published in 2010.
